What does your library do to protect the privacy of its users? And should we do more?

A lot of libraries are interested in using data to give a better service. Like for example to give book recommendations to library users; or using library user records to create new client profiles. But aren't we endangering the privacy of our users by doing this? Even if the data is anonymized. The library is one of the last places where people can just 'be', without having to buy something, and without being tracked. Shouldn't we cherish and protect that? And if yes, how are we able to do that?
